ART REVIEW: Fantastic OptoSonic Projections
Last Saturday night I had the pleasure of attending an art show/live performance known as Fantastic OptoSonic Projections. Curated by Wilfred Galila and Kirsten Incorvaia at the Space Gallery on Polk Street in San Francisco, this gallery was unlike any art show I’ve previously been to. Having never been to the Space Gallery before, I really enjoyed the place. Downstairs is a bar with reasonably priced drinks and some delicious sangria. Upstairs is the gallery containing several rooms with a central space for performances and projections.

The night started off with Three short experimental films by the talented filmmakers Amy Harrison and Meghan O’Hara. Next was a live performance by folk band The Family of Man where they scored a short film by Anna Lanoue entitled ‘The Day I heard the Bird Sing’. It was amazing to see a film scored live. The mix of live music and film gave a jammy feel that made the whole audience feel like a part of the experience. If you haven’t already checked out the Family of Man, their album Inside the Box is free and is located here. I can’t wait to see the future work of these talented musicians.
Next we had a short film by media artist Kadet Kunhe. Equally talented in both Audio and film production, her work is an experience that must be seen live. Following her project piece, Kadet scored a 16mm film by filmmaker Paul Clipson . The two’s style worked wonderfully together in a way that sucked everyone into the piece. I forgot any concept of time or location once the film started.
Overall, I’d give the Show a 10 out of 10.
Please check out these artists. You will be glad you did.
